[In Memorium] Dr. Death Steve Williams (1960-2009)

Former UWF Heavyweight Champion, All-Japan Triple Crown Champion, and LCW Television, United States, and International Champion "Dr. Death" Steve Williams passed away last night after a long battle with throat cancer. He was 49 years old. Legends Championship Wrestling would like to extend its deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of Dr. Death Steve Williams.

From wwe.com:

WWE.com has learned that “Dr. Death,” Steve Williams, passed away at the age of 49 after battling throat cancer for many years.

An All-American football player and wrestler at the University of Oklahoma, Williams went on to wrestle in UWF, NWA, ECW, All Japan and WCW with Terry Gordy before joining WWE in 1998.

In 2007, with his cancer in remission, William penned an inspirational book entitled How Dr. Death became Dr. Life. “I’ve been a fighter all my life,” Williams told WWE.com at the time. “I never gave up.”

His trying journey infused in Williams a gentle perspective and a deeply spiritual commitment. “I kept praying to God, and He opened the door,” said Williams, who devoted his time to working with a ministry group and at-risk kids. “I use the ring as an altar call, and I do my testimony from the ring and ask the kids if they want to give their lives to Christ, and then we pray together.”

During his battle, Williams strengthened his bond with the man who signed him onto Mid South Wrestling when he was still a student at OU, WWE’s own Jim “J.R.” Ross.

“Steve Williams, mentally and physically, is the toughest athlete I’ve ever seen in any walk of life or any sport, including the NFL,” Ross told WWE.com in 2007. “[And] he has a heart of gold."

WWE Raw superstar, and former LCW featured talent, Sheamus O'Shaunessy won the WWE Title last night from John Cena in a table match at the WWE TLC pay-per-view.

Sheamus started being featured regularly in LCW storylines in October of 2007, as the bodyguard to LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway and later as a bodyguard for Macho Man Randy Savage and The Genius Lanny Poffo.

LCW Showdown Television Official Preview 12.02.09

Following the explosive LCW Redemption Day 2009 pay-per-view this past Sunday, the Showdown Championship Draft continues and the champions – some old, some new – prepare to defend their titles once again in the LCW Showdown Championship Draft Series!

Universal Ironman:
At LCW Redemption Day, Stone Cold Steve Austin retained his LCW Universal Championship against Magnum TA in a pay-per-view classic. Since his reign began, Austin has battled back over 10 title challengers, and most of them in consecutive weeks. This week, Austin hopes to do that once again when he takes on a member of the Desperadoes: Dirty Dutch Mantel. Mantel will be looking to bring the gold home for the dominating group, but he's not the only one. This past Sunday at LCW Redemption Day, Big Van Vader and Goldberg both made their ambitious goals clear; Vader verbally declared his path to the title, and Goldberg interfered in the main event title match, some say costing Magnum TA his opportunity. Can Austin do it again, beat Mantel? And what does the future hold for him. Is time running out? Is LCW about to change their clocks to “Vader Time?”

Midnight(mare) Express Calls at Showdown:
New LCW World Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express made their trip to Nastyville a memorable and a successful one when they overcame the Nasty Boys this past Sunday. In a match with history dating back to Mid-South Wrestling, the Midnight Express take on the Rock 'n' Roll Express in title competition this week on Showdown. The Midnight Express were once beaten by the Rock 'n' Roll Express in May 1984 for the then-Mid-South Tag Team titles. Could this be the ultimate Midnight(mare) for the Midnight Express?

Early Bird(man) gets the gold?
Fresh off winning the LCW International Championship this past Sunday night, Paul Orndorff is forced to defend it against the resident birdman of Legends Championship Wrestling – Koko B. Ware – in title action. Orndorff beat Barry Windham for the title this past Sunday, but can his luck continue heading into LCW Showdown this week? Or will this be a short-lived reign on the part of Orndorff?!

Atten-Hart!
The LCW Heritage Championship has become piggy in the middle, so-to-speak, as it pertains to the LCW Showdown Championship Draft as it has switched hands no less than 4 times as part of the Draft Series, and a further time this past Sunday when Bret Hart beat then-champion Kevin Von Erich. However, as Hart is set to defend his title against former WWF Champion Sgt. Slaughter, his condition is in question. This past Sunday, after beating Von Erich, Hart was locked in the Claw and the hold wasn't released for several minutes. Hart was checked over by LCW medics, but his condition is still unknown. If we know Bret, he'll defend it come hell or high water, but will that be a mistake?!

Also, Watch Out For:
- LCW United States Champion Billy Graham defends the belt against Col. DeBeers in title competition. After beating Stan Hansen in a lumberjack match on Sunday, can Graham retain his title again?
- A feud appears to be brewing between the LCW Women's Champion and the LCW Joshi Champion. Lock won the Women's Title on Sunday, and Akira Hokuto is getting a shot at the Joshi Champion, but after remarks made by former Women's Champion Luna Vachon, many fans are sensing an impending war. Is this so?

[Breaking News] The Nasty Boys Released From LCW Contracts

As first reported on LCW's Official Twitter account (twitter.com/lcwrestling), LCW has come to terms on the release of the Nasty Boys: Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags. LCW wishes Knobbs and Sags the best in all future endeavors.

The Nasty Boys faced LCW World Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express last night at the LCW Redemption Day Pay-Per-View which saw the Midnight Express retain the titles. The team were informed of their release this afternoon. This comes only weeks after the release of Brutus The Barber Beefcake was announced. More releases are expected.

Knobbs and Sags are a record-setting four time LCW World Tag Team Champions and former LCW United States Tag Team Champions and have been with the company since its inception in 2005. They actually won their first LCW World Tag Team Championships from the Road Warriors at LCW's inagural event, the very first LCW SuperClash in 2005.

It is believed that these releases are a result of Hulk Hogan's signing with TNA. The release of the Nasty Boys was not unexpected and rumors were swirling a few weeks ago that the Nasty Boys were going to be released after the Showdown at the Chase VI Television Special in which the Nasty Boys lost a triple threat match to the Bass Brothers and Cowboy Bob Orton and Dirty Dick Slater, a match won by Slater and Orton who walked away with the tag team titles.
