[Feature Story] The Ultimate Warrior and Christian Calaway: An Unholy Alliance

by LegendsChampionshipWrestling.com Staff

It was one year ago this month that The Ultimate Warrior was fired by the Legends Championship Wrestling Board of Directors and publically fired by LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway after comments he made in regards to the WWE produced "Self-Destruction of The Ultimate Warrior" DVD.

Now, one year later Calaway and Warrior are best friends? What's wrong with this picture? Last month, Calaway announced that he had a hand picked participant to take part in the Elimination Chamber match at August's Caged Heat pay-per-view which turned out to be Warrior. Less than two weeks earlier, Calaway had met with Warrior and publically stated that the door was not open for him to return to LCW. So what happened in the days leading up to the Elimination Chamber match that changed Calaway's mind?

The night of Caged Heat, Calaway went on to assist Warrior in winning the Elimination Chamber match which made him the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship at this Sunday's LCW Survival Project pay-per-view. Last week, Calaway even helped Warrior secure a place in the Survival Project gauntlet tournament. Traditionally, the number one contender and the LCW Universal Champion do not take part in the tournament, only in the main event. However, this year Warrior is in the main event challenging Nikita Koloff for the LCW Universal Championship and, thanks to help from Calaway, has also secured the highly sought after number 50 spot in the Survival Project gauntlet tournament. So, the question remains unanswered: why has Calaway aligned himself with someone he once publically called, "human scum" and a "disgusting human being"? Before his release, Warrior made inflammatory comments about manager Bobby Heenan and his bout with throat cancer which led to his needed to wear a colostomy bag.

At that time, Calaway defended Heenan and said, "For me personally, it was what Warrior said about Bobby Heenan that was completely unacceptable and made me absolutely sick to my stomach. That's what I think ultimately pushed the entire Board of Directors to make the decision that we made."

In a recent interview Heenan said, "I can't understand this turn that Calaway's taken. He was always so caring and concerned about the legends in the back and defended me when Warrior made those comments about my cancer and now he's completely seperated himself from anybody but the Warriror. I don't know what he's doing or what he plans, but whatever it is it's a mistake."

Backstage, Calaway is said to be reclusive and, when he is around other people, distracted and seemingly uninterested. Unfortunantly, Calaway was unavailable for comment and the Board of Directors, who were available, declined to comment. Insiders in LCW say the Board of Directors, especially Bruno Sammartino who until was Calaway's closest confidant, are disappointed and looking into the posibility of legal action against the LCW Chairman of the Board. However, a lawyer for the Board of Directors did note that Calaway has not taken part in any board meetings since bringing Warrior back to LCW which only strengthens their case against him.

Only time will tell if Calaway will interfere in the main event between LCW Universal Champion Nikita Koloff and The Ultimate Warrior tomorrow night on LCW Survival Project available only at LCWSurvivalProject.com.
