[Breaking News] LCW Releases The Steiner Brothers

While it was only a mere formality, the LCW Board of Directors announced today that The Steiner Brothers, Rick and Scott Steiner, had officially been released from their contracts. Scott Steiner recently signed a new deal with TNA which forced the Board of Directors to activate a clause in the LCW legends contract that states that if a legend works for either WWE or TNA, they will not be featured on the LCW legends roster. Therefore, Scott Steiner was given his release, but not before The Steiner Brothers dropped the LCW United States Tag Team Championships to The Freebirds earlier this week on LCW Showdown.

Scott Steiner informed the LCW Board of Directors that he would be leaving the company to work for TNA. The fallout of that announcement also brought about the extension of a release to Rick Steiner, which the elder Steiner Brother accepted. There had been talk in the locker room last week, shortly after Scott Steiner made his announcement, that without his brother by his side, there wasn't much interest in having Rick Steiner on the roster as a singles wrestler. Rick Steiner and Road Warrior Animal were teamed together shortly before Scott Steiner's return to LCW as a last ditch effort to generate interest in both men who weren't making much of an impact as singles wrestlers. Upon the reunion of The Steiner Brothers, Road Warrior Animal was released from LCW.

LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway took much of the blame. "I'm responsible for creative around here. I just didn't know what to do with either (Rick) Steiner or Animal. So we put them together and that didn't really get over. It worked a little bit, but not enough to invest seriously valuable time in. When Scott Steiner returned, we released Animal because we knew he wasn't going to work as a singles wrestler for us. WWE tried it and failed. We tried and failed. But when Scott told us he was going to TNA, that changed things for Rick. And we were honest when we said we didn't know what we would be able to produce for him. Right now, we just didn't have anything for him. And then we heard that TNA was talking about a possible Team 3-D/Steiner Brothers angle and we certainly didn't want interfere in that either."

Calaway wished both of them well and said the door was always open for their return. Calaway said, "Everyone always says that The Road Warriors are the greatest tag team in wrestling, but they were never great wrestlers in my opinion, just great characters and great entertainers. The Steiner Brothers were great entertainers, great characters and great wrestlers. They will defiantly be a part of LCW again one day."
