[News Update] The Nightmare Continues on Showdown

Last night was probably one of the most shocking editions of LCW Showdown in quite awhile. LCW Universal Champion Nikita Koloff successfully defended his title against Dusty Rhodes only to savagely and brutally attack Rhodes after the match for no apparent reason, sending Rhodes to the hospital, and forcing LCW security officials to drag Koloff from the scene of the attack.

Security officials had to mace and handcuff Koloff to subdue the maniacal "Russian Nightmare," but still that wasn't enough as Koloff managed to break from of the handcuffs and had to be beaten down with a nightstick before being handcuffed again and dragged to the back.

As the security officials dragged Koloff past LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway's office, Calaway stepped out and demanded that they release him into his custody. After calming Koloff down, they both awaited LCW Commissioner Nick Bockwinkel's announcement of the LCW Board of Directors decision on the number one contender for the LCW Universal Championship at LCW Descent on February 25, 2007, in the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.

After "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's name was officially announced as the number one contender, Calaway had to again calm an irate Koloff. After leaving Koloff in his office, Calaway called someone on the phone and said he had lost the support of the Board of Directors and would need the help of the person on the other end of the line. Apparently, the person on the other end of the line was none other than WWE Chairman of the Board Vince McMahon. While the details of the relationship between Calaway and McMahon are not clearly known at this time, a partnership between the two would undoubtedly be the most powerful in the history of professional wrestling.

As for Dusty Rhodes, he was taken to an area hospital after the brutal assault on Showdown, was treated with several fractured ribs as well as a Grade III concussion, and was unavailable for comment. Magnum TA, a friend of both Rhodes and Koloff for years visited Rhodes in the hospital and said in a telephone interview, "I can't believe what's happening with Nikita. I think he's lost more than his heart. I think he's lost his mind. What he did to our friend Dusty Rhodes was absolutely uncalled for. What should have been a classic wrestling match turned into a massacre. He was channeling Joseph Stalin or something, man. It was barbaric."
