[Throwback Thursday] Kerry Von Erich wins the NWA World Championship from Ric Flair on May 6, 1984

With the news of Lacey Von Erich signing a developmental contract with WWE yesterday, we decided to feature her father, the late, great Kerry Von Erich in the debut edition of LCW's Throwback Thursday.

This week on LCW's Throwback Thursday we feature Kerry Von Erich winning the NWA World Championship from Ric Flair in a WCCW match in front of a capacity crowd at Texas Stadium on May 6, 1984, shortly after the passing of his brother David Von Erich.

Kerry's victory was a tribute to his brother David, who had died three months earlier and for whom the event, the David Von Erich Memorial Parade Of Champions, was named. He lost the belt 18 days later in Yokosuka, Japan, back to Flair in a bout that was marred by controversy. Von Erich's feet were on the bottom rope following a reversed rollup, but the referee ignored this and made the count.

Kerry Von Erich would definitely be a featured legend in Legends Championship Wrestling if he were still with us today. He passed away on February 18, 1993, after committing suicide at his father's ranch in Denton, Texas. Unfortunately, LCW doesn't feature deceased wrestlers as we don't wish to write a storyline that might disrespect their memory or legacy. His brother Kevin Von Erich, the only surviving Von Erich brother is a featured legend in LCW and is a former two-time LCW Heritage Champion.

We hope you all enjoy the debut edition of LCW's Throwback Thursday on LegendsChampionshipWrestling.com. If you have a video that you'd like to see featured on a future LCW's Throwback Thursday, please send the YouTube link to info@legendschampionshipwrestling.com or to us through our MySpace page: http://myspace.com/lcwrestling.
