[Throwback Thursday] WarGames '87: Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, The Road Warriors, and Paul Ellering vs. The Four Horsemen and James J. Dillon
The WarGames concept was created by Dusty Rhodes and was originally conceived as a specialty match for the Four Horsemen. The first two WarGames matches took place during the NWA's Great American Bash '87 tour, where it was known as "WarGames: The Match Beyond." There were also WarGames matches at the Great American Bashes in 1988 and 1989. WCW brought back the WarGames match at their WrestleWar pay-per-views in 1991 and 1992, before it became a tradition at the Fall Brawl pay-per-views from 1993-1998.
The WarGames match returned in 2005 at the inaugural LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view. (For past LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view results, click here or visit LCWCagedHeat.com). With LCW Caged Heat only three days away, this week on Throwback Thursday we present to you the very first WarGames match from the 1987 Great American Bash which featured the Four Horsemen and James J. Dillon facing Dusty Rhodes, Magnum TA, The Road Warriors and Paul Ellering.
Be sure to check out the WarGames match at this Sunday's LCW Caged Heat pay-per-view when LCW Chairman of the Board Christian Calaway steps into the cage with the members of his Entourage, LCW Universal Champion Nikita Koloff, LCW International Champion Superstar Billy Graham and LCW Heritage Champion Tully Blanchard as they face the thorns in Calaway's side, Big Van Vader, Harley Race, Magnum TA, and Jack Brisco.
