LCW SuperClash 2009 Preview 06.14.09: Legends Become Legendary

It's here! The date that every fan in Legends Championship Wrestling dreams about. The one night of the year in LCW where literally anything can happen. It's a night of spectacle. It's a night of pomp, pageantry, but most of all it's a night where the Legends of Legends Championship Wrestling become legendary.

What a card this is sure to be, and it's all coming to you this Sunday night!

LCW Universal Champion Magnum TA vs. The Nature Boy Ric Flair.

One year ago this month, Magnum TA became the LCW Universal Champion defeating then arch nemesis, (and Champion at that time) Nikita Koloff in a brutal affair. One year, yes, one year later Magnum TA still reigns atop the pile of Legends that inhibit Legends Championship Wrestling as LCW Universal Champion.

One man, Ric Flair, looks to take that championship from the beloved Legend, as Flair looks to add yet another championship to his already incredibly impressive resume. Flair's comeback has been shrouded in controversy, as the Nature Boy always is. His return to LCW came at a time where he also returned to World Wrestling Entertainment. Some say Flair is confused as to what he wants, others say he's only in it for the money. But one thing's for sure, Ric Flair looks to strike gold this Sunday night in his hometown of Charlotte, Nc, at LCW SuperClash. Can he do it?

Prediction: Magnum TA defends the glory and honor of LCW, sending Flair back to corporate America once and for all.

Stone Cold Steve Austin (with LCW Founder Christian Calaway) vs. Bill Goldberg (with LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner).

This Sunday, Christian Calaway and Ted Turner find themselves locked in a power struggle. Both men wanting to run Legends Championship Wrestling. But only one can. Over the past several weeks, Turner and Calaway have been working through 'operational compromises' which has seen the two trying to evince their power, and outdo one another at every step.

Ironically, last year, the main event saw LCW Founder Christian Calaway fighting Steve Austin in a tough and brutal affair. If Calaway won, he'd gain back his spot as the Chairman of the Board. Calaway, somehow, came out the victor in that affair and won his company back. However, an investigation by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission sent him into hiding for several months and he was removed as Chairman of the Board with the position eventually being given to a man with some experience in the role, Ted Turner.

This past week on LCW Showdown, during a game of parking lot chicken, Goldberg drove his vehicle into a wall, and there has been some questioning as to whether the Human Wrecking Ball will be able to compete this Sunday. One thing's for sure, however, one man is leaving as the Chairman of the Board and if it's not Calaway, the Founder of the company will have to leave Legends Championship Wrestling forever.

Prediction: Steve Austin, giving Christian Calaway complete power. Due to the uncertain nature of Bill Goldberg's condition, this seemed the right pick.

Last Man Standing Match: King of the Legends, Diamond Dallas Page vs. Dr. Death Steve Williams.

A feud which started over one spear back at LCW Breaking Point, these two have become bitter enemies and arch rivals. Their feud has led them through the King of the Legends tournament, a tournament to prove who was the top legend in LCW, and a tournament won by Diamond Dallas Page. Page, who aligned himself with LCW Chairman of the Board Ted Turner, Bill Goldberg and Eric Bischoff, has been quite dominant over the past several months.

Speaking of dominance, the undeniable force and unmitigated brute strength of Dr. Death Steve Williams has always been a prevalent factor in Legends Championship Wrestling. Williams' size and prowess has seen him win such titles as the LCW International Championship in his tenure.

For these two, there's way too much water under the bridge to go back. And one man will have to beat the other to a state of complete exhaustion, to enable a win in one of the most physically demanding matches in pro wrestling – the last man standing match!

Prediction: Dr. Death Steve Williams will win. Page has been a thorn in his side for months. It's time for him to remove that thorn one and for all.

Steel Cage Match: Kevin Sullivan vs. Paul Orndorff.

Sir Oliver Humperdink turned on the fans, turned on his friends and turned on Paul Orndorff back at LCW Uprising last month. Who has managed many greats in professional wrestling such as Superstar Billy Graham, One Man Gang and the late Bam Bam Bigelow, made an enemy out of Paul Orndorff.

Humperdink tore down the walls of the 'old' House of Humperdink, to make way for a 'new' House of Humperdink, which Kevin Sullivan, and his better half Luna Vachon are now tenants of. With their feet firmly under the table, Sullivan and Vachon, along with Humperdink, have made it their goal to end Paul Orndorff.

With no love loss between the two, Orndorff challenged Sullivan to a match where no-one could involve themselves and no-one could make it a lop-sided affair. It all comes to a head at SuperClash.

Prediction: With no help behind him, Sullivan will fall prey to Orndorff's temper. Orndorff to win it.

Triple Threat, Unification Match (for both the vacant World Tag Team and LCW United States Tag Team Titles): Manny Fernandez and Terry Funk vs. One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy vs. Big Van Vader and Stan Hansen.

Last month at LCW Uprising, the LCW Tag Titles were supposed to be unified in a match between Manny Fernandez and One Man Gang vs. Terry Funk and Big Van Vader. It ended in controversy, however, as Funk and Fernandez paired up and claimed that THEY were the Unified Tag Champions.

The mess was resolved as the 'operational compromise' of Christian Calaway and Ted Turner came into effect. Calaway and Turner unilaterally announced a triple threat tag team match. The match would see Vader and Gang pick new partners. First up, Vader picked Stan Hansen, and in their first match as a pair they ended up brawling with one another. This led, seven days later to an impromptu street fight between the two, which ended in a no contest. One Man Gang made a surprising appearance with his partner, King Kong Bundy, and the match was set.

Only one team can make LCW history and become the Unified LCW Tag Team Champions. But which team can do it?

Prediction: While Gang and Bundy have experience as a team, Bundy has been out with an injury for several months and it's unknown if he's 100%. Funk and Fernandez seem to be the only team actually on the same page. Or even reading the same book. That's good enough for this writer!

I Quit Match, Loser Leaves LCW Match: Rick Martel vs. Tito Santana

A feud that dates back not just months, not just years, but decades. The former pair of Santana and Martel used to be Strike Force tag team partners. But the partnership split after Martel suffered a career-threatening injury. Martel later made it clear what he thought of Santana.

The two attempted to reform in LCW years later, but that ended in tears, too, when Martel got it in his head that Santana (who was LCW United States Champion at the time) was dodging his potential contendership to the belt.

Martel would then injure Santana, leading to Santana's return and challenge to an I Quit match. But not any I Quit match. Santana would challenge a Loser Leaves LCW I Quit match. Martel accepted, and the match is on.

Prediction: This one's difficult. But I'm going with Santana – completely on a limb.

Grudge Match: Bret The Hitman Hart vs. Jim The Anvil Neidhart.

Showdown Sweepstakes was the downfall of the Hart Foundation. Dynamite and Bret Hart won a Tag Team Championship match. But Dynamite was unable to compete when he was attacked mysteriously in the locker room.

A month later, a security guard showed Dynamite the revealing CCTV evidence tape – convicting Jim Neidhart as the assailant. Dubbed by many, including yours truly, as Benedict Anvil, Neidhart professed how he did it for Hart and that they should have been getting the title shot. An attack in both Dynamite and Hart has led to this match at SuperClash. What could happen is an endless possibility!?

Prediction: I like this new side to the Anvil, and see it taking him to victory at SuperClash on Sunday.

Title Unification Match: LCW International Champion Tully Blanchard (with Baby Doll) VS. LCW Television Champion Wildfire Tommy Rich (with Missy Hyatt).

It started at LCW Uprising one month ago, when both Missy Hyatt and Baby Doll, of separate acquaintances, both tried dancing with the performing Flo Rida. But, when Flo's attention was turned to Baby Doll, Hyatt got jealous. A catfight led to their respective men, Blanchard (with Baby Doll) and Rich (with Hyatt) getting involved. Since then, Rich and his cronies in Hyatt International have attacked Blanchard. It led through a mixed tag team match this past week on LCW Showdown.

A new dimension to the match has to be the fact that both titles will be up for grabs, and the losers title will be retired. Who has enough in them to keep their titles active?

Prediction: Rich to win, as Hyatt International proves useful again.

Six-Man Tag Team Match: LCW Heritage Champion Nikita Koloff, Sgt. Slaughter and Ken Patera vs. The Disciples of Allah (Abdullah The Butcher and The Bolsheviks).

A falling out between Ken Patera and The Discples of Allah is what has led to this six man tag team match. The Allah leaders, Sheik Adnan Al-Kassie and General Skandor Akbar blamed Patera for a loss in a ten man tag team match earlier this year. This has led to a brutal path of Fireballs, attacks and threats.

Patera, now aligned with Nikita Koloff and Sgt. Slaughter, has the satisfaction of knowing that if they come out on top in this six man war, then and only then will the Discples of Allah split once and for all. Either way, this is a match with a lot of personal animosity, and it's not one to miss.

Prediction: Patera, Slaughter and Koloff prove dominant, as the Discples of Allah are falling apart at the seams.

The Skyscrapers vs. Doom

Since returning to Legends Championship Wrestling, Doom has made their intentions clear: they want the LCW Unified Tag Team Championships. However, after making their return, the Skyscrapers also made their long awaited return and set their sights on the same goal of championship gold.

The Skyscrapers quickly took out Doom's manager, Slick, and focused their attention on taking out their main target, Ron Simmons and Butch Reed. But can Sid Vicious and Dan Spivey, who were having problems before they left LCW for a short hiatus to refocus their energies, manage to work together as a team like they used to, or will they be brought down by the clearly focused and clearly united Doom.

There's no doubt that whoever wins this match will be a clear contender for the new LCW Unified Tag Team Champions after LCW SuperClash.

Prediction: I have to give this one to Doom. I'm not entirely sure that the Skyscrapers are totally focused on winning the gold and have fully worked out their issues. I have a feeling those issues could resurface at SuperClash when they face their fiercest competition since returning to Legends Championship Wrestling.
